Relaxation, Leaving Things

‘Yesterday’s MindSpa Adventure, we headed back for the classic Room for Relaxation.

It’s familiar territory. Going back over the structure is like tracing the lines of a favoured picture. It gives a chance to relax, ease up and soften the conscious grip on control.

While visiting the Room for Relaxation, the imagery and technique are often the same. That doesn’t make it the same experience.

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus is quoted as saying “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”

Each time we cover something new, and slightly differently.

Each time you bring something new with you.

This time we focused a little on leaving behind some of the things we no longer need to carry, and on accomplishing something important.

Here’s a fun thing I’ve found valuable. It’s a really flexible technique. So flexible, in fact, I did my dissertation on it:

B-Boys and B-Girls (breakdancers, for the uninitiated)

creating resources and states (such as confidence, assertiveness, creativity)

quickly and easily while battling.

Yes, on a dancefloor. With music.

So, what is it, and how do we use it in the Room for Relaxation?

Imagine a version of you, just over there, that is wonderfully relaxed.

You don’t have to literally see them – imagining or pretending is enough.

And, this wonderfully relaxed version of you …

Would they be standing? Sitting? Lying down?

Would they be saying anything to themself?

Where would they be breathing from?

(nose/mouth; chest; or diaphragm / belly?)

As you notice these things, what do you notice changing for yourself?

Has your posture changed?

Did you notice your breathing changing?

Let’s revisit this wonderfully relaxed version of you.

Imagine them just over there, this version of you that’s wonderfully relaxed.

Notice how they’re positioned (standing/sitting/reclining);

If they’re saying anything to themself;

Where they’re breathing from.

When you’re ready, try them on. Imagine climbing inside this wonderfully relaxed version of you,

try them on – perhaps like comfortable clothes,

and notice what changes …

It’s not magic.

It’s not a trick.

It’s just communication. It’s a way of suggesting to yourself what you’d like to happen.

Hypnosis is just communication. Pretty much all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

I remember this one! It was an absolute delight — a really beautiful journey. This is one of thsoe experiences where I elaborated on why I created the MindSpa the way I did, why the foundations were important and how to use them in more advanced ways.

We used imagery from the Journey into Relaxation to create resources in the moment (other than relaxation) — get some practice with these resources so they can be more immediate and usable in our everyday lives.

Early days for the MindSpa MiniMeditations. It’s nice to reminisce and see how far things have come.
